casually, i was just there and i couldn't get the instant unmorph. i went fast, slow, really close to the tunnel but nothing. the camera even clips the tunnel very barely in the regular unmorph.

i could also check that there's an invisible wall in front of the wave beam before the fight. i spring jumped to try to grab it heh.
speaking of the beam, the + switching seems to be quite fast. the beam change animation is slightly faster.

back to the game, i've got a bad feeling about the gravity suit. i can't grab the artfact that requires gravity early since the underwater ghettos seem to be much weaker now. i get so close that i think i made it but i fall. it could still be doable but it's going to be much harder now.

edit: whahaha they forgot to cover up SWs. the SW used to get IBBF is still open.
Quote from UchihaSasuke:
edit: bad news. unless i'm just shit with the Z button, seems that dashing was toned down a lot and the dashes are like in mp3 now. no extra distance. l-lock jumps seem to be gone also since you can't lock the beam like before anymore.
seems i'll be getting the items in the right order for now.

i suppose that can be useful now. i have never used that method so no dice for me.
technically it isn't sjf anymore since you need quite a few items :p

Three. But it's still early, which is A-OK. lol.
Also, I would really, REALLY love you if you tried IBBF.

heh i really suck at wallcrawling :p. i can't even do IBBF in the original version but who knows, i might try after i beat the game.

btw, i just got ice beam. it can be gotten directly after wave like before but now there's a slowdown. you can't jump off the stone toad anymore. jumping is completely disabled when stepped on it.
Then you can just do the ghetto off the 'elevator scan' totem.
Or what else did you do?

So you can get it without spider then? Strange... How'd you get up teh track in Furnace? TBJ? Ghetto?

a BSJ zoid used it in one of his runs. i was surprised i could pull off that in 1 shot.

btw, more working breaks: great tree hall bars can still be bypassed. i'm at phazon mines now.

edit: i got to the power bombs. i'm going to take a break now and eat something.
btw, i noticed something bizarre. freeze+missile doesn't kill the ice pirates in 1 hit anymore. they get frozen but the missile doesn't do damage.
So just the cut scenes are stretched on 16x9?  That's ok, it how it looks during gameplay that I care about...  Though arent the cutscenes actually in 1.85:1 aspect ration widescreen?

they aren't stretched. they are zoomed in. you see less than what was intended this way.

great news. can't believe they left that one in when they made so many other changes. who's to say what the us and pal versions will be like, though.

so dash jumping doesn't really work at all anymore? looks like old early sj is the way to go— good thing i'm decent at that.
Is it still impossible to bsj anywhere? Also, does it have Corruption's "one bomb in midair" mechanic?
Edit history:
SkippyJr: 2009-02-20 03:13:19 pm
From the sound of Sun Tower, we've got Corruption's nerfed bombs. :(  The dash too?  Sun Tower's "fix" and Vent Shaft similarly impassible leads to a 24% as minimum (without SWs) - boost, spider, but smilingjack's SJ ghetto onto the gate to still skip supers.  25% if the game gets Player Choice'd in Geo Core (the Grapple locked door).  Hopefully the easy wall BSJ and (spring!) roll jumps also followed over from Corruption.

It will be a blast to see what was altered and also re-SB rooms.  The less well known breaks/tricks/glitches will be useful here.

With a new HUD, the manual and title screen demo videos will change.  I fear a much shorter multi-lingual manual in NA.  Here is one of the demo videos [noembed][url=[/noembed].  LOL, the E-tank in Magmoor which required you to do good DBJs is a cake-walk now.

I would like to take this opportunity to mention that the above post, made by Baby Sheegoth, was the 240000 GET.

That is all. Also, what the hell, it's actually called "Wii de asobu: Metroid Prime"?

that's the japanese version's name. i felt it could work to differentiate the versions for when the US and PAL versions come out since they could have their threads with their names (New Play Control: Metroid Prime) so i used it.

btw, i don't have much experience with BSJs in mp1 but i'll try a few in some walls using the spring ball. i feel it isn't going to be easy because instant unmorphs are still rare.

oh i forgot, i couldn't skip the first elite pirate due to the lack of l-lock. i'm sure escaping life grove with the rock isn't possible now because of this.

edit: climbing the room to exit phazon mines through the back still works (but i slipped a lot.). on my way to plasma now.
btw, the door that could be reached with dashes in the first phazon mines room doesn't have a lock. maybe if someone can find a way to dash it can be possible to enter that way.

edit2: lo and behold, getting plasma early in this version is a bitch. no dash and no rock = get spider and grapple first.

i just beat thardus. PBs alone made him cake. first time i beat him without thermal visor. was much easier than i thought. now i'm going back to the mines for grapple.

edit3: got grapple and plasma. i couldn't step on the rail to jump into the spider blocks so maybe they changed this one but slipping there is easy.

i didn't notice very clearly but seems that beams now fire like in mp3. you only need to hold A very briefly to release a charged shot fast. these charged shots seem to be quite strong, especially with plasma. seems this will make some enemies easier to beat (can't wait for the final boss)

edit4: got super missiles, thermal, gravity suit and ice spreader. as expected, to shoot beam combos, hold A to charge and press dpad down to shoot the combo.
also, some speed tricks still work to get missiles, etc.

edit5: unless i picked the wrong difficulty, chozo ghosts are dying with just 1 super missile.

Try climbing the crane instead.  I think you can make that jump, but it's been awhile.

well, i got 100% items and beat the game. there's more stuff that got changed on the later parts.

first, i made a big mistake with difficulties. i picked normal but turns out the other difficulty was veteran and i unlocked hard. the catch is that they are listed opposite from mp3 (normal is at the top and hard the bottom)

also, normal is really an easier mode since super missiles were dealing more damage than usual. i thought i was going nuts by seeing metroid prime and other bosses/enemies get kicked around with just 1 super missile (the ghosts were 1-hit KOs). also, mp's final phase died with 4 pools and, iirc, all versions except the american one had him with double health. i think the phazon beam trick works but i'm not sure given the difference in difficulty and damage.
i suspect veteran is our good old mp1gc difficulty and hard is the old hard mode but i'll have to play that to be sure.

if you were wondering about load times, there's a few that are longer but overall the loading is almost the same. elevators make it noticeable.

another big change: ridley's cheesy strat doesn't work. i couldn't hit him with the boost ball at all. also, his final phase seemed very glitchy and i couldn't damage him consistently. is this common in the old non-US versions?

good news for Fusion fans: the fusion suit is also unlocked once you beat the game. you need to give 2 orange tokens for it but at that point you'll have almost all of them.

also, since the game has mp3's file structure, scans carry over to new runs. i noticed i have 89% scans in my just-started file. the game also keeps track of what difficulties you have beaten, like mp3 and finishes your save once you beat the game.

for anyone who loathes ZM samus, the old samus was kept for the 100% ending.

the staff credits have 2 sections now. first, it lists the people who worked in the conversion from nintendo and retro and then it lists the original staff. the conversion credits are very short in comparison.

another thing i noticed is that some of the music was updated. Ridley's theme sounds a bit different now. i haven't checked the others yet.

well, that was my first playthough in mp1wii. plenty of changes + old tricks that work made it very entertaining. i missed scans because at first i didn't care but i'll try to get the ones i missed (although that will be hard in japanese but scans give gray tokens and i'm missing one. 100% scans probably since i got one at 50%)

oh btw, my time was exactly 5 hours. i laughed when i saw that.

might try it but if that involves l-lock, it might not work. do you have a vid of it?

also, i'll be gone for a few days since there's a 5-day holiday in my country starting tomorrow (a carnival). i'll be back on wednesday. hopefully, someone else gets the game and tries speed tricks. i'd like to stay and keep playing but i promised a friend that i was going already (this reminds me of the week i got SSBM and 2 days later i had my graduation trip. i almost bailed out but went to the trip in the end :p)

Isn't that how it is in mp3 as well...? Normal, Veteran, Hyper/Hard

Also, longer load times? That's a bit of a shame. I was hoping they could tone down the one before ridley because that one is huuuuuge. Have you noticed any furnace crashes?
Furnace never crashes on my NTSC -00 when it's playing on my wii.

For some reason, I think I got one on the chozo elevator on wii, but I could be mistaken.

EDIT: I was watching the newest video on that guy's channel, and the door before flaaghra opened way quicker, so that's a good sign.

well, the only loading i noticed slower was between elevators. i didn't stop to check carefully on rooms.

also, i would imagine the furnace crash is gone. wasn't it fixed in the later versions for GC?

my mistake is that i thought the difficulty was different and was lower than normal. they're the same as mp3 but listed the opposite way.

hm interesting ghetto jump. i bet it can be done. i can't try it for now.

btw, i made a vid of meta ridley's fight:

Thanks for the info!  Some good questions came up at MdB.  Do the helmet lights at the top reflect remaining battery power like with Corruption?  Does grapple just work with Z and not require shaking the nunchuck?  Did you figure out how to get the hand on the gun (which might simulate the effects of R)?

That door being unlocked seems to confirm that each region is getting its last released version Wii-ified.  It was only locked in NA PC (unlock it for us please Retro!).

Is it known whether environmental damage rate depends on difficulty setting in Prime?  3VMR might be more easily doable in Normal mode.

Do you have a pic/video of the conversion credits?  Don't worry about it if you don't.  A_P_N might be in there.  We might be able to tell how much work was done outside Retro, and if artists are listed we'll know that rooms were further worked on.

Wouldn't that mean it'd still be possible getting early SJ by using the method used in the PAL version?
Just don't know if that got also fixed in the NA PC.

edit: Forget what I said. Just reread Sasuke's post where he explains why it doesn't work. ._.'
