An update on enemy editing...
Goomba is a filler until I do my custom version
there are 4 versions of boos, that all replace the flying insects

Yoshi King will be shooting Yoshi eggs for those of you who suggested it.  I was already planing on it, but its always good to here suggestions.

To be honest, I wouldn't have actually minded the first idea of doing a SMB1 remake, but I suppose that's because I don't have a thirst for batty challenges and it would have been a good exercise for the guy doing it. But this is just as promising, so long as the difficulty doesn't go to far and you don't screw with the physics.

I think the Yoshi King is looking pretty spiffy and am actually quite enjoying seeing how the work is coming along. On the same note, I am eager to see what else you will come up.

The suggestion of having Kraid/Bowser be the final Boss probably won't work because of the way Mother Brain's fight is scripted. I'm not sure it is even possible to take MB out of her room (just as it is impossible to take Kraid out of his room, insofar as I am aware).

Tip for you: Don't be so closed-minded, especially when it comes to rom-hacking. With a hex editor, possibly an integrated level editor, and a little imagination, anything is possible! aiwebs_011

Have you ever tried playing Super Metroid MockingBird, made by our very own Xaggoth? It has no definitive last boss, but it is definitely able to be completed. Who knows, Squishy_Ichigo could very well create a very tough Kraid(Bowser) battle and then turn the rest of the game into an escape without the timer!

I wouldn't call his post close-minded, that's pretty harsh. Besides, he's more or less right; it'd be almost easier to code an entirely new escape sequence in than it would be to turn MB's room into Kraid's, I'd bet.

I think the confusion here stems from simply not understanding that a game can be completed without fighting Mother Brain at all. You simply have to enter the room behind MB to trigger the state that causes Samus' ship to leave. (ie. hangtime)

Acheron hit the proverbial nail on the head when it comes to my statement on the rooms. However, I will admit that I did not know you could actually skip the Mother Brain fight.

Also, to ZHs2, I tend to avoid a lot of hacks because I've found some people don't know when to stop increasing the difficulty. I enjoy fun games, not ones that test my patience.

In fact, I think many of the general hacking populace here (including myself) didn't know that entering the room after MB triggered the "Escape" room states, unless they were in-the-know or were/have already been debugging Super Metroid for themselves in the first place. Ok, now to Squishy. Good work on Yoshi King; I still believe he can be leaning farther to the left, though. Also, he's not as dolled up as anything else you'd find in the Mushroom Kingdom, if'n you catch my drift... :( He's still pretty damn ugly...

Anwsers to questions:
About bosses...
Since I'm not using door caps, bosses are going to act alittle differently then your used to.  You'll be able to leave at any time during the fight if you think you can't win, or for other reasons.  I'll only be using bosses that you have to beat to open a new route.  (Phantom is an exeption, but you'll see what I do with him... heh heh heh...)
Bowser will be the final boss, and I was already planning on doing the no escape timer thing with this game.  (I haven't played mockingbird yet... I didn't know someone had already done it...)
Yoshi king is not done yet... how many times do I have to say that  I wonder...

About areas and enemies...
I've thought of some pretty good transitions from Super Mario to Super Metroid, and I hope you like them.  (I will not be releving them all just yet!)  Each area will have a very distinctive feel, in both level design and exploration style, keeping you on the edge of your seat.  ( Well I hope so at least... I've learned my lesson with being lazy from Pantheon... but lets not talk about that here.)

Bowser's Castle - A combanation of a ghost house and a castle, this place will confuse the crap out of you!  I hope you brought your map!
Plumber Hills - A hilly region all covered in pipes!  With so many tubes to choose from, you'll be exploring here for a while!  But don't forget to look up to!
Mushroom Woods - An area divided in two.  The ground level is covered in mushrooms, and the higher up you go, the more trees you'll find.  With secrets abound, you'll want to spend some time here!
Dark Depths - After taking a tube deep under the ground, you'll find yourself in a large cavern!  Much of the cave is flooded though, so find those upgrades quickly to help you explore better!
Floating Isle - A secret area, who knows what secrets it holds!


That seems like enough for today!  And don't forget to vote!  Nothing is finalized just yet!  Who knows, maybe the remake will win!  (Wouldn't that be funny!)

Say, hey. I just had a thought... You could retile the black doorcaps as barriers made of stone blocks or such, and then have the game remove them when you trigger a certain event in another room (just to defeat the notion of ever hearing a door open in the entire game.) Just suggesting. ^^

Hey, maybe we ought to make the energy tanks mushrooms. Think about it - when you get a mushroom, you can take another hit, which is an effective means of raising your hp. Do you have plans for all the power-ups?
In terms of suggestions, I think the little respawning bugs should be turned into coins.
I don't like that. I would try to grab the coins, and they would hurt me. Who in the world would attack respawning money!?

You could use the Hammer from SMB3 as the Missiles.

Ice Beam = Ice Flower from Galaxy
Wave Beam = Volt Shroom?
Spazer = Shooting Star from Paper Mario?
I don't see reserve tanks in that list, maybe those could be the mushrooms from Mario 2.  You could use the feather for speedbooster and change highjump to a little Luigi in a jumping animation. 
This is so insane and cool! But anyway, why don't you use the fire flower for wave beam? The wave shots resemble fireballs much more than plasma does...

The color scheme for those ? Blocks looks a little off to me. Don't know why I didn't notice that before...

Also, that stone block is a weiiiiiiiiiiiird color, and the note block looks to be a little bit thick around the edges.
